The elections passed off quietly.
Most of the returns, however, are still far from complete.
The indications arc that the Labour Party is well maintaining the lead which it held in the last Parliament. The Labourites are likely not only to retain all the seats which they have previously held, blit to capture some of the seats of the Opposition, whose hopes of improving their position now appear to have been badly disappointed.
