N.Z. LIQUOR POLLS
ALLIANCE AGAINST ANY CHANGE. PREMIER SUGGESTS COMPROMISE [by TELEGRAPH rER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, May 7. A deputation from the Now Zealand Alliance waited on the Prime Minister and Attorney-General (W, D. Stewart) to-day to place before them a number of matters dealing with licensing legislation. Various speakers expressed opposition to any extension of the time between the licensing polls, or alteration in the law which now provides that the licensing poll shall be taken on the dnv of the general election, or any increase in the facilities for additional drinkin'G and also asked that the ballot paper he altered to contain two issues only. In replying, the Prime Minister stated that a licensing bill was being drafted for presentaion to Parliament this session. He suggested that representatives of the parties interested in the licensing question should meet m conference with .the Government to see on what point at issue a common agreement could he arrived at with a view to improving the licensing la" s. M.r Coates stressed the urgency o holding a conference without delay in view of the early approach ot the session. -
