FOOTBALL.
SATURDAY’S GAAIE3,
Tho senior, junior and third grade competitions of the AA’estland Sub-Un-ion commence to-morrow afternoon at tho several centres.
In tlie senior championship game in which Stars (Grey) and a combined Hokitika team are taking part, there will be considerable interest shown in view of the Sub-Union’s decision to merge the senior players of the local clubs into one team for the senior games. Thi.s attitude has been taken up with a view to-improving the quality of the senior play, which it was generally agreed last season had shown a. retrograde movement, duo to the absence of enough players of the quality of play for more than one competition team.
The junior fixtures for the first round should give some idea of the strength of tho various clubs this season, it always being a matter of some doubt until the form of the new players available is gleamed.
