He was distinctly snappy and apparently out of practice. Bardslcy, when partnered liv AVoodful. scored rapidly, the wicket was drying ami the bowlers were getfink a kick out of the ball. The batsmen were most respectful. Bardslcy scored frequently past point, but in the .second over after tea lie stepped out to drive but missed the hall which rebounded from his pads to the wicket keeper. Tic had played a sound two hours’ ehaneeless innings. AYoodlul tamely hit the ball to silly leg and Colman running in splendidly hold it. Ryder had one narrow escape. Col man took the ball low down and Ryder started to walk off, but Col man signed to him to return, intimating the ball had touched the ground first. Ryder then indulged in stnaight driving. He also cut excellently, and indiscriminately sent Meyer and Falcon to the boundary. the latter twice in succession. Grimmett opened with a couple ol leg drives, followed by a very poor daisy cutter from which he gained five. He was trapped by a slower ball which lie sent into mid-off's hands. Ryder largely monopolised the play, giving an excellent all round exhibition.

The bowling throughout was good and well mixed and the fielding sound. The innings lasted two hundred minutes. !• ••cling free! exprcsse'l t.uii it is earlv la torn, an opinion ol the Australian-. mistiming ami tuixiudgineul Well- too /Ycqiient I'll.
