LATE LOCALS.

.Messrs Newmans Motors Ltd. notify cars will run to the golf links every Saturday and Sunday at 1.30 p.m.

A Christchurch paper says:—Between five and six o’clock on Sunday evening the electric light failed in Brighton, and the district fed by the same sub-station. The fuses were found open at the sub-station, and when they were closed the light went on again. The mystery has been solved by the discovery of the (lead body of a huge white swan lying under the 11,000-volt wire at the end of M’Bratney’s Road, near the river. Evidently tho swan flew up against the wire and was electrocuted, causing a short circuit. There is a mjirk on the swan’s body showing where the contact took place.

Resentment has been expressed to us bv a business man of the town, at tho want of the usual telephone facilities with the railways goods shed enjoyed until recently. It appears" that when a call is made through the exchange, the enquirer is connected up with the railway office, and is informed as tho result thereof, that he will bo switched on to the shed, and to ring again, with tho result that time is lost and the enquirer gets one or more enquiries from the telephone lady (Number please), although lie is endeavouring to get the through connection at tho goods shed. IVe think that if this matter were represented in the proper quarter it would be promptly rectified and direct communication with tho goods shed be given as formerly.
