WELLINGTON, April 27. The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated 1 April 24, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — BUTTER. . The market is very quiet. Official quotations are:— New Zealand—Finest salted, 171 s to 172 s per cwt (Is 6]d to Is 6-]d per lb), exceptional, 174 s per cwt (Is o]d per lb); unsalted, 174 s to 176 s per cwt (Is 6Jd to Is 03 d per lb); other qualities, 146 s to 166 s per cwt (Is 3.Jd to Is 5Jd per lb). Australian—Salted, 168 s to 170 s, up to 172 s per cwt, (Is (id to Is 6Jd to Is | fijd per lb); unsalted, 170 s to 172 s per cwt (Is OR! to Is oi<! per lb); other qualities, salted 150 sto 166 s per cwt (Is -Id to Is s;]d per lb) ; other qualities unsalted 160 s to 166 s per cwt (Is 5d to Is s>d per lb). Argentine—Unsalted, 154 sto 160 s per cwt (Is 4)d to Is 5d per Ih) ; other qualities, 142 s to 152 s per cwt (Is 3d to Is 4Jd per lb). Siberian—ls6s to 160 s per cwt (Is 4.jd to Is s}d per lb). Danish—l7Bs nor cwt (Is 7d per lb). CHEESE. ’ Colonial continues slow. Official quotations are:—English—Finest farmers’, unchanged and steady. Canadian—Finest coloured and white 106 s to 108 s per cwt fil’d to 11 Ad per lb)._ New Zealand—Coloured 92s to 94s per cwt (ORI to TOd per lb) ; white 92s to 93s (93d to lOd per Ih). Australian—Coloured 88s to 93s per cwt (Did to Kid per lb). A shipment of Now Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Norfolk. CASEIN. French rennet- is quoted at from £56 to £65 and Argentine at £52.
HEMP. The -Manila market is firmer. “J ’ grade April-June shipments sold at £4( early this week, hut now quoted at £4] 10s. Sisal market is steady at last quotations. New Zealand market is quiet and value nominally unchanged. April-June shipments are quoted, sellers £36 10s. probable buyers £35. Fair in dock sold at £34. WOOL. The Bradford market is quiet but firm, for fine cross-bred and merino, Tops position medium and coarse crossbred not satisfactory on account of limited Continental demand. Present quotations are : 50’s (tine cross-bred) 2s IJd per lb, •10’s (prepared) Is B]d per lb, others unchanged. APPLES. The market is quiet owing to large quantities of all descriptions available. Norfolk shipment now landed and opening up in good condition, no sales as yet. Small quantity previous .shipments still unsold, principally inferior Cox’s Orange. Present quotations are:—Cox’s Orange 12s to I ts per case. Worcester Peat-main 8s 6<l to Ids per ease, Dunn’s Favourite Ids to 12s per case. Ruling prices for Australian varieties 8s to Ids. TALLOW. The spot market is firm and prices arc advancing. Present indications a re : Mutton—Fine, -Its to 15s per cwt ; fair to good, -12 s (id to 43s (id per cwt ; dark to dull. 40s to 41s per cwt.
Beef—Sweet and (or) mixed 42s 9d to 43s fid por cwt; fair to good. 41s (id to 42s 9d per cwt ; dark to dull, 33s fid to 40s per cwt. Mixed—Fair to good, 41s to -12 s 9d ped cwt; dark to dull, it'-s (id to 40s per cwt. Gut, etc., 36s to 30s per cwt.
