[Australia A N.Z. Cable Association.] RAIN PREVENTS PLAY. (Received this day at 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, April 29. The opening match of tho Australian eleven’s tour against a Minor Counties team was fixed to start at Maidenhead to-day. Rain commenced overnight and fell up to eleven in tho forenoon. The wicket was sodden and after an examination it was decided not to play before lunch. The match which is a two days’ fixture does not count in the average. LONDON, April 27. Cricket was abandoned for the day, the wicket being unfit for play. LONDON, April 28. Tlioro is great disappointment af tho first day’s cricket fiasco. Notwithstanding tho weather many hundreds gathered at the ground from London and other parts of tho country. Correspondents from all parts were present. The ground will still require at least twenty-four hours absence of rain to render it playable, CRICKET NEWS. PON DON, (April 28. The team to represent Leicestershire against- the Australians on May Ist. is Major Fowke. Sharp, Taylor, Geary, Astill, Skelding, Sid well. Berry, Bale, Shipman and another to lie chosen on Saturday.
