LABOUR DAY DISPLAY. .MELBOURNE, April 26
Eight hour day, under the new name of Labour Day, was celebrated by a big procession through the city streets today, which was followed, by sports. A feature was the fine trade display of Australian-made goods. Under the banner of the ex-Police-nien’s Union, there marched some two hundred ex-constables, who were discharged from the ranks as the result of the strike in Melbourne a couple of years ago. The crowds gave them a great reception. A BIG FIRE. BRISBANE. April 26. Half the main business block in tho township of Toogoolnwali, consisting of nine shops and an hotel, wore totally destroyed by fire. The town has no water supply or fire brigade. The damage is estimated at £15,000. ANOTHER CROSSING SMASH. TWO MORE KILLED. ADELAIDE, April 27. As a train from Angaston to A tier lnide reached a level crossing three miles north of Gawler it collided with a motor-ear occupied by Mr Hogan, bis wife, two daughters and an infant. The ear was wrecked. Mrs Hogan and one daughter were killed and the other daughter and infant are suffering from head and internal injuries and are not expected to recover. The father also is in a critical condition. HOCKEY TEAM. PERTH, April 27. The Indian hockey team to tour New Zealand are passengers by the Cbitral.
