[llY TELEORAPII PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ONE ArONTH’S IMPR LSOXAIENT. CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. Edward William O’Connor, a ship’s deserter who imposed on two priests at St. Bede’s College and obtained money, was sentenced to one month this morning by Alagistrate Young.

A GOLD FIND. AUCKLAND, April 2G. The discovery of a gold-hearing ree£-* x at the Alburmia mine at Thames, has created great interest. Activity in the Company’s shares was particularly marked on the Auckland stock exchange. Whereas the buyer quotations for Alburmias were 6d a week ago, sales took place to-day at between 3s 9d and 3s, the market closing at 4s Gd and 4s 4d.
An indication of the amount involved in tile transactions is gained from the fact tfiat. at the first call, 1000 shares changed hands, at the second call 2103 shares changed hands and at the third call 400 shares. Thus a total of 4000 shares were bought and sold. CHARGE OF THEFT. STRATFORD, April 27. At the Police Court yesterday the hearing was commenced of forty-eight charges of theft and four of forgery against Alatthew Miller, late secretary of the A.AA’.R. Alilking Machine Co. The charges were in respect of monies of the company. The hearing was not completed when the Court rose. The total sum involved is slightly over a thousand sterling.
