I.YTT ELTON WATERSIDE RS. CHRISTCHURCH, April 25
Shipping at Lyttelton is at a complete standstill, owing to the waterfront trouble. The steamers which were working have now all sailed, and those remaining are held up, pending a settlement of the dispute. It was freely stated in the port on Saturday night that the wntersiders are determined to stand to their demands in view of the fact that they have been offered monetary assistance from outside for at legist a month. It is also stated that a prominent Lyttelton man is to be appointed arbitrator between the shipping companies and the wntersiders, with the object of bringing about a settlement of the trouble on 'Monday. Tho usual call for labour to work the “preference” ship C’oolann. was made on Saturday morning, but no labour was offering, although there was the usual muster of waterside workers at the wharves. A committee meeting of the Union was held on Saturday morning to discuss the deadlock, but the result of the deliberations has not been made known.
