£IOOO CIGAR THEFT.
LONDON. Feb. 20.
Thieves who broke into the premises of Messrs Borrell rand Company, Ltd., tobacco merchants, of Leadenhall St., K.C., yesterday succeeded in getting away with a quantity of cigars the total value of which is estimated at £IOOOO.
The police believe that- at least three men were involved in the theft, am that two of them gained access to the premises by climbing on to the roof at the rear of Loadonhall-stroct and passing; through another building. "Working through the early hours of the morning, the two thieves packed thousands of eigyirs into canvas bags which they found on the premises. They then carried the lings along the roof to the building by way of which they bad entered Messrs Borrell’s premises.
Alter collecting their booty they arc believed to have waited at the foot of flie stairs until just before eight o’clock, 'when a light motor-lorry diovo up to the door and took away the stolen goods.
