" The Carnival Ball bold under the auspices oi the Ross Open Air Amusement Club took place in the Totara Hall on Thursday evening and proved to ho a great success. Tie eulogised Air Kennedy’s work as a police constable and stated that both in his official capacity and as a. citizen he had earned the esteem of tho residents generally. In asking him to accept a suit ease as a small token of the respect and esteem in which ho was held .Mr tKnier.s wished to couple the names of Afrs Kennedy in the townspeople’s regard. Afessrs ,T. Air Kennedy feelingly responded thanking all on behalf of himself and family both for the momenta and the good wishes. Tlie gathering closed with singing of “For lie’s a jolly good fellow.” Air Kennedy who lias retired from the Police Force leaves this week for Gore where lie has purchased property and will in future follow farming pursuits. Constable Best of Hokitika is in tho meantime acting as relieving officer. So far the inline of ATr Kennedy’s successor is not known locally. PERSONAL. After an absence of four months on sick leave, Air C. R. Watson local Stationni,aster lias returned and resumed duty. We. are pleased to note that Air Watson's health has greatly improved. Air Gr.
