MR ZANE GREY.
FISHING TOUR ENDED.. AUCKLAND. April 21. Wonderful months of deep-sea and trout fishing were concluded to-day by Mr Zaiie Urey, when lie struck camp at the Toiigariro River, Taupo district. lie will leave immediately for Wellington to join the Tahiti oil J uesday for Sail Francisco. So favourable have been his impressions of the sport New Zealand has to offer that Mr Urey intends to return to the Dominion next year, and, on that occasion, he will come in his own schooner, the I* isliernian. Iliree months will he spent- on the northern coasts in deep-sea fishing, to be followed by a sojourn in the South Island, after which Mr Grey will again fish at Taupo, about May ot next year. He lias expressed himself as delighted with the fishing sport to he obtained in New Zealand, alter bis experience with Hie deep-sea fish off the Bay of Islands. Mr Grey said he had never experienced anything like the fishing with marlin and swordfish that it had been his good fortune to enjoy in the north, and it was his intention to explore the grounds further in his own waV, with Ids own cratt. His tentative itinerary provides tor the arrival of the party at Auckland toward the end of November. They will be on -the North Auckland coasts for about, three months, and will then go to Bluff, and probably Stewart Island and the Sounds for further deep-sea fishing. This will las followed by fresh-water fishing in the Cold Lakes region, and in May they will fish at Taupo again. From New Zealand Mr Grey will take the fisherman to Fiji. Papua, and The Solomons, and will finally sail to the United States via the Marquesas and Paumotii groups, and. the Galapagos Inlands.
When he leaves Wellington next Tuesday, Mr Grey will go direct to California, and after four days at bis home, will start fishing for broadbill at Catalina Island. This will be followed by a shooting expedition in the country in and around the Grand Canyon of Arizona, where grizzly bears are to be found, and lie will then fish for steelhead in Rogue River. By that time he will be preparing for his return to New Zealand. It was noted that while in New Zealand, Mr Grey devoted all available
time to writing, .and it is understood that he is well advanced with his book on New Zealand fishing.
