ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. HEAVY BEEF -ENTRIES. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report as follows regarding tlieir stock sale at Addington yards yesterday : Store sheep.—Although the yarding in this department was fairly substantial it was a good deal smaller than lately and again the yarding comprised a fair number of travelled , and shipped sheep. The quality gen- , orally was very irregular and comprised many lots of culls and tail ends. . Considering the lateness of the season and the quality of the yarding gener- , ally the sale must l>e considered a , good one. Lambs if anything were rather easier and even so met with a 1 very fair demand. There was one big lino of shorn Romney cross wether 1 lambs from Poverty Bay which made Its 3d and to our mind looked cheap . as compared with other sales. 1 cry t few wethers were yarded. S.M. There were one or two c pens of steers which sold well. Three ir and four years £7 to £8 Ids; 2 amTH yr. old to £6 10s; yearling and IS
months old to £2 7s Cel. One extra nice pen made £2 15s. Other cattle were unaltered.
Fat Pies.—A 1 arge entry forward, including ,n good proportion from the West Coast. A large proportion of these were sent forward in an unfinished condition and were neglected hy butchers, not being suitable for the trade. The market all through was easier. Values: Light porkers 15s to 555, heavy COM to 07s; average price Td to BJd. Light baconcrs £0 5s to £1 10s. heavy £5 to £5 10s, extra heavy up to £0; average 7}d to 8!el. Choppers: Too many were yarded and prices were easier. Value, £3 to £0 0s Od. Store Pigs.—A small entry and the demand was very imlinorout- and sales hard to make. Values: Won Tiers 8s
to Ms fid. slips lfis to 18s, medium 22s to 2Rs. Large stores -ICs to 50s. Beef.—An exceptionally large yarding, well over GOO head. The quality was very irregular hut included two small lots of North Island steers which were exceptionally good. The market opened easier and continued so throughout, but towards tbo end sagged decidedly, and showed an average drop throughout of about 80s per head.. Prime steers £1 1 to £lO ss, extra to £2O 7s 0, mdium £lO to £l3 15s, others clown to £7. Prime heifers £8 Is to £ll, extra. £l3 12s fid; medium £0 15s lo £B, others £1 17s fid, prime cows £7 12s fid to £lO ss; extra to £l2; medium £5 15s to £7 10s; others to £l.
Mutton.-—A very large yarding and the quality generally was better than we have had for many sales and included more wethers than usual. Owing to the site starting before the lamb sale finished, several exporters were absent, in the early part of the • ale which in our opinion was slightly easier than last week, but soon firmed up and showed an improvement Throughout until the tail end. when j trice's eased. Taking the sale all round, there l was little 1 quotable difference t.<j last week. Prime wethers 31s to 375. one extra special lot 30s to 38s fill, lighter down to 2lis. prime inves 21s lo 27s Gel, extra to fils Id. medium 21s to 28s fid, others to 1 Is. fat Lambs.- A smaller yarding and the quality "as better till round, .although the over-ill price. l is quoted Jel down wo are quite satisfied that the market was quite as good, if not better than last week and well over schedule rates. Wo strongly advise en.v West Coast clients who have I lambs to realise to try Addington market in preference to selling them on the hooks.
