[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association., 44-HOURS WEEK: SYDNEY, April 21. The. conflict between the Federal awards and the New South Wales Forty-four Hours Week Act continued when ail application was made on behalf of the Metal Trades Employers’ Association to the Federal Arbitration Court for a prohibit ion to prevent the Industrial Arbitration Commissioner of New South Wales from dealing with the applications of tho State Branch of tho Australasian Society of Engineers for tut award wherein the fortyfour hours week is claimed.

The application of the employer: has been refused.

Mr Justice Powers, the I’residen of the Court, in delivering the jndjj menl, said that the reasons for refining the application, among other* were that no State Industrial Coinmis sion at present existed, and the oh State Arbitration Court expired, am the Court did not think it advisahl at the present time, to grant the np plication, hut the Court gave leave ti the Association to renew its appliea lion if any State Court proceeded l< hear the claims of the Union.

The final returns for the New South Wales wheat harvest show that 3,656,910 acres were. sown, of which 2,928,790 were sown for grain, a lid 33,815,0u0 bushels were harvested, the average being 11.0 bushels to the acre.
