Shipping lihere is completely disorganised by the heavy gale that has been raging on the New South V ales const since Saturday. Many vessels are twenty-four hours late in arriving from Sydney. A large number of the coastal ships are sheltering. GOVERNOR'S INJURIES. (Received tins day at 11.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 20. Since Lord Stonehaven arrived in Australia he has had some varied experiences. First, he was concerned in an aeroplane smash and then nearly impaled on the bowsprit of a yacht which collided with his yacht in Sydney harbour. Lastly, one of the heavy window sashes at Admiralty House fell on his forefinger necessitating amputation at the first joint.

The " Daily Guardian ” deducting from the figures recently issued by the Commonwealth Statistician, claims the Australian of to-day has gained twelve years of life, compared with the whiskered gentlemen of 1890, and his shingled hotter half twelve and a-half years over her ancestress in bustles. The Australian horn to-day can expect fifty-nine years of life, also nineteen out of every hundred will reach their eightieth birthday compared with ten per cent thirty years ago. Among a multitude of factors contributing to this greater longevity, high places are given to improved surgery, dentistry and sanitation, and also better living and working conditions, athletics, better health and education generally.
