The cricketers practised for two hours at the. nets at Lords, a big crowd watching them. Everyone was there, excepting Griinmett, who is suffering from, a slight cold, bowled and batted •for a'short turn. The exercises were mainly muscle loosening and gave little indication of their true form. Ihe men have hardly yet got'their land legs and are burdened with extra flesh put on during the voyage. CRICKETERS WELCOMED. (Received this day at 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, April 20. After attending the opening of the Australian Apple Show, the cricketers were given a reception at Australia House. It drew a big crowd including Sir ,T. Allen and many leading Australians. Sir Joseph Cook in introducing the players, predicted 1920 would see the best cricket and toughest struggle for many years. Hon. Amery welcomed the players on behalf of the Government ns good sportsmen and citizens of an Empire which was largely held together by the love of sport and a common desire to seo the I>ost side win. He suggested the transporting of the English cricketers’ sweethearts and wives to Australia, ..otherwise the test would he played under unequal conditions. The audience demanded a speech from. Hobbs but he had slipped from the platform.
