inittees for a report. 'l’lie Hokitika committee's application tor retention ot 3rd secoiularv assistant, was referred to the Department for favourable consideration. The committee suggested the closing of the 'So nth Spit School and conveyance of pupils to Hokitika. It was resolved to ask the Department to approve of the proposal, provided the eost was less tha at present, A letter was received from the Publicity Department regarding the exhibition of the picture "Glorious New Zealand” to school children. The matter was referred to the committees and headmasters to make the necessary arrangements. A letter was received from the Auckland Board regarding appointment of head teachers to schools of Grade TIIA mid upwards. It was resolved that in order to remove any doubt as to the Board's powers to limit these positions to masters, the proposed amendments he agreed to. An application from the T? unnnga Baths Committee to construct the swimming baths on the school grounds was granted. Appointments made included—Hokitika, Mr H. D. Smith, assistant master. Resignations accepted included.— Cobden, Miss E. L. Crowley. A circular was received from the Department suggesting that the provisions of the Act requiring teachers to remain their full time in positions should be strictly administered. It was pointed out that, the board had beenendeavouring to do that.
