OUR HOSPITALS.

DR AIcKACHERX’S REf'OMMEXDATIOXS. WELLIXGTON, April 19. Dr McEachern’s report on the Xew Zealand hospitals which has been issued. highly commends a"number of features of the present system, and generally speaking, finds the buildings good and fairly comfortable. The four metropolitan hospitals can rank with any elsewhere. The education of nurses impressed Dr -McEachern favourably. He advocates tlie stimulation of community interest, the reduction of the number of districts, provision for an intermediate class of patients with freedom, to choose their own doctor, a uniform policy of staffing, abolition of full or part time medical officers and substitution of as many practising doctors as possible cin each community, the allotment of director of hospitals, a maternity ward in each hospital, with a doctor always ready to attend, well organised dietary departments and more careful planning of hospitals.
