Accommodation and other difficulties have presented themselves, and now the Department is endeavouring to find other lines on which the vehicle may he .more, suitable. The Ford conveyance used on the Grcytown branch line has proved inadequate for traffic. A similar trouble lias been met with in the case of the Clayton steam rail-car on the Foxton hranch. and the third typo of vehicle, the Sentinel steam car. has been laid up for repairs after doing service on the Hntt line. In view of the disappointing results in respect to the throe classes of vehicle referred to, Departmental officers now scout to he more inclined to natch the result of experiments conducted elsewhere than to risk the wastage of public funds in trying other new types. Meanwhile every endeavour is being made to find sections of line on which the rail-cars already in commission may prove satisfactory.
