It is revealed that a surprise picture portrait of the King, which was hung at the instigation of one nl the London Borough Counti!>. I'o-r the- purpose *d hanging in its To'.'n Hall. Ihe artist is Mi. Richard .lack who was not grunted any sittings. Inn to whom ihe King loaned the necessary uintonrs and decorations. Later on. such iavourahle reports reached the King that Mr. .lack was asked to bring hi- half completed portrait to the palace. The King was mn-f delighted. Tie immediately offered to give sittings. and he weid. act ompanied hy the Queen, to the artist's studio in Karl’s Court. The King was so pleased w ith the progress made, that in order that it might be hung in llie Academy. lie obtained special permission from t lie secretary to allow Mr. Jack to eontintie his task alter the date fixed for the cessation of work. It will be recollected that Mr. Sims’ portarit of the King was withdrawn from the Academy last veer.
