Section 83 of the Fisheries Act, U'CS, provides that regulations may he made prohibiting or regulating the export from New Zealand of trout, salmon, or any other acclimatised fish. It is now thought desirable to prohibit the export front New Zealand of quinnat salmon, and an-Order-in-Council has been made preventing the export of such fish except with the consent of the Minister for Marine.

The Greymouth Jockey Club one-day meeting is taking place at Omoto today. A fair number travelled north this morning by train and motor cars. Tho lleefton Club’s meeting takes place ou Wednesday.
By a Gazette issued on Thursday night regulations governing the grading of primary school teachers are re voiced ami a new set of regulations brought into force as from January 1 last.
The monthly meeting of the Westland County Council takes place as usual on Tuesday afternoon. On Monday evening there will he a special meeting of the Council in committee to consider matters pertaining to the reorganisation of tho road staff. During the Council meeting on Tuesday afternoon there will he a conference with local body members in regard to tho purchase of the Kumara water race.
Mr W. T. Neill. .Surveyor-General, and Mr H. M. Wilson, General .Manager of the Tourist Department, are expected to arrive* here to-day, and \\ill pay a visit to South Westland. Dr Teichelmaim will accompany the visitors probably and travel as far sontn as Cook’s river. On the return of the visitors to Hokitika it is proposed to hold a joint meeting with the Progress League and Tourist Association to consider matters all'eteing the advancement of the district through the Towns Department.
A l the second annual conference of the South Island Progress League, held at Dunedin on Thursday, it was resolved That the time is opportune for the construction of a road to connect Lake Wanaka with the road system of South Westland. This district. offers faeilties for timber production. dairying and tourist traffic mi equalled in any portion of the Dura inion, mid a. road through the teiiitoiv will open up large areas ol land for settlement.
The Minister for Lands will leave ior Nelson and Westland on Monday evening. and will be in Nelson on Tuesday. Sinco tlie passing, during last session „f Parliament, of the Deteriorated Lands Act. which, was meant to apply primarily to a large area in the Noi t i Island, the Minister for hands has received requests from settlers in nidcrent parts of Westland anil Nelson to have their lands proclaimed subject to the Act. The Minister lias received a Departmental report oil the subject, but before coming to a decision lm> decided to visit the localities interested. This is tho main object oi Ins vim- to tho West Coast.
Regarding the visit of the Argyll Baud' to the Coast. Mr. Evans has received the following telegram from the Director of Amusements at the Exhibition: “Re request regarding band tour. Present arrangements preclude concert at Hokitika. If can rearrange will do all possible. Meantime have been advising advance agent to reserve quota of accommodation for Hokitika patrons at Greymouth concert. The advance agent is expected to reach Greymouth Saturday.” Mr. Evans hopes to get into touch with the advance agent today in tiie effort to arrange for a visit of the baud hero on May 12tb.
With regard to tho final schools excursion from, Hokitika to Dunedin Exhibition, tho following telegram has been received from Mr Struck, manager of the Education Court:— ‘' Regret now find it impossible take you 19th. Must come 20th.” As the 26th April opens the final week of the Exhibition a further postjxmeinent is not jxtssiblc, so that those enrolled for the trip may accept the date as certain. Mr and Mrs W. S. Pratt assisted by Miss Stephens will be in charge of tho party. The party which will leave here on Saturday, April 24th, for Christchurch, will .proceed from the latter place to Dunedin on April 26tli, and return here on Saturday, IT ay Ist. Anzae Day will bo spent in Christchurch.
