T know in your zetil to keep the levy on ihe local contributing bodies as low as possible every year, all the possible ooiitingenc.ios are not adequately prn- , vhied for. Let me just sound a warnI ing note, that, unless provision is . made in your annual estimates for , these contingencies, it is possible we , m.iv be suttcli, urged -tome of These items to “unauthorised expenditure” wh-ioli is only mm per cent , of the levy.

The estimates for the year art, n *». petti of last year’s expenditure anil receipts executing maternity bonus, superannuation scheme, bacteriological laboiv.itory and nurses’ uniforms. This expenditure is statutory and has been forced upon the Board and must he. provided for. Capital expo mil tore £304 is necessary to complete our farming scheme, in order to further economise in regard to supplies to the Hospital, which every year is showing a fair profit. 'The slight, reduction shewn in patients fees, £2460 is warranted for tho reason a lesser number ot patients, viz. 351 was treated last year as against 420 the previous
