THURSDAY, APRIL 8. The Board met at 8 p.m. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. H. Blank, G. Davidson, E. A. Wells, T. W. Duff and A. B. Spiers. Tho minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Dr Valintine, VVellingt-on, in reference to an advance on subsidy— Received. As you will observe from the estimates before you. we have practically kept within the figures given last year as regards Hie maintenance expenditure. whereas we have exceeded the estimates for capita! expenditure. He did not sec how the figures could lie reduced. The Chairman seconded, staling the levy could not he reduced unless the Board was to end in it deficit at the end of the year. The difference in the Borough of Hokitika's share was due to the increased valuation of £250.900. | The motion was agreed to. The action of the sub-committee. in appointing George Freitas as wards, man was approved. Tt. was resolved thiat the Board withdraw from the Hospitals’ Association, the Chairman stating lie was of the opinion that the cost involved, £7 7s did not warrant a continuance. The special meeting to deal with the striking of the levy was fixed for Monday. April 26th. REPORTS. The House Committee reported on n number of small requirements. That a list of the fire appliances had been made, and it. was found that some 300 feet of hose was required, so as to reach all parts of the hospital, and also an additional stand-pipe was required to work the laundry building. —Rereived. The requirements mentioned were authorised. Accounts amounting to £291 13s 4d wore passed for payment. The Treasurer reported : Receipts, £661 11s 9d; payments. £1155 14s 9d: debit balance £l2O 5s 9d.—Received. The Board rose at 9.10 p m,
