SYDNEY, April 7. .Members of the Watcrsiders’ Federation decided to present themselves for work at the coastal shipping wharves on Thursday where the work previously has been done by volunteers. As the owners refused to negotiate with the Seamen’s Union for a settlement of the strike, this action by the wharf labourer# is considered as a break with the Seamen's Union. MELBOURNE, April 7. The stevedores here held a stop-work meeting to discuss the present system of pickiug-up. The meeting delayed all overseas shipping, as no work was done after mid-day. It is expected that the result of a meeting of the owners held will lie an ultimatum to the men, objecting to the present system of two pick-ups daily. TERRIFIC STORMS. SYDNEY, April 7 A terrific thunderstorm, accompanied by torrential rains, swept Adelong and Temora. At the former place, valuable. assaying plant and buildings were destroyed by lire, after being struck by lightning, and the whole telephone, service of the town was disorganised. At Temora the rain flooded the town causing extensive damage. ROWING. HOBART, April 8 The Tasmanian Rowing Association decided to support a proposal for two races between Australia and Now Zealand, the first in Sydney in 1928, and the second in New Zealand in 1931, the expenses of the Australian representatives in New Zealand to he borne in proportion to the membership of the various State Rowing Associations.
