[nv TELEGRAriI PER PBESS ASSOCIATION.] M A SON IC FUNCTION. NELSON, April 0. The Kirkpatrick Masonic Institute (formerly the residence ol the late Mr. S. Kirkpatrick) was officially opened by Bro. Jesse Steer, District Grandmaster of Westland and Nelson (E.C.), chairman of the board of governors, in the presence of a large and representative attendance of the Masonic fraternily. Mr. Steer explained that the home was, by the terms expressed in the will of the late esteemed Bro. Samuel Kirkpatrick, to be founded on similar lines as the Royal Masonic Institute for girls in England. The Afasonie Society is not a friendly society, benevolent or charitable institution, but it unfortunately happens through circumstances over which we have no control, of sickness, after a long illness nr/d death, leaves children fatherless in a. more or less precarious and destitute circumstances. Brother Kirkpatrick, believing this, and with the liberal hospitality which has characterised his actions to those dependant upon him, and those in his employ, has left the residue of his estate, which is approximately £30,000, together with this beautiful home, with its pleasant surroundings for the housing and education of girls left in this unfortunate position.
