PIONEERS' PICNIC.

TDc. pioneers’ picnic held under the auspices of the Westland Branch of the Canterbury Automobile Association took place yesterday and consisted of a motor run to Lake Kanieri. The following pioneers were present at the gathering: Alesdames Michel, .McKinnon, Fowler, Allan, Howard, Thompson, Amberger. Scott, Smith, Stapleton, AlacKav and Shannon; Alessrs Aliehel, Alaekav, Shannon, Smith, AVallace, Truan, YY Smith, Amhergar, Howard, Thompson, Thorn, Garland. Veale, Herd, Vincent, Irwin. Anderson, Hawkins,' .McKenzie, Hi lev, Healy and Dueling.

The gathering took the form of a picnic luncheon and an outmg\>n the lake in a motor launch for which Air J. Robinson is to be thanked.

A few of the old men pioneers went searching for “white pigeons.” During this search several toasts were honoured, the principal I wing that of Mr Anderson, the oldest pioneer at the gathering. Air Anderson was Sb years of age last birthday. Before leaving for Hokitika the Hon Air Aliehel thanked the Automobile Association on behalf of the pioneers for the splendid effort they had made in eomitig forward and giving the “old people” such an outing. In responding Air C. Gaylor said that on behalf of the Automobile Association, he hoped the picnic could he made an annual one, and that, if so, lie trusted to see the same faces next year as were there on this occasion. The picnikers arrived hack in town at A n.iii.
