The question, are tennis players too old at thirty-five, has been raised bv the retirement of Gobert, a former French champion, on those grounds. Prominent players disagree, declaring that there are many over thirtylive capable of outplaying younger men. Others say' that tennis is hemming too much of a business instead of a game. Turnbull, a Davis Cup player, says he is thirty-live, hut has no intention of retiring. Lareoinbe, the AVim.bledon manager, points out that Ritchie won matches last week though ho is over fifty, and llillyard is still winning though sixty. Americans usually retired at thirty, because they played at a break-neck pace and consequenly were soon done. Tilden was regarded as a veteran though only thirty-three.
