SHIPPING DISPUTES

[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] SK.VXIKN’S SPLIT. SYDNEY, Alarch 30. To-day there was a meeting of the Seamen’s Union at which six hundred members were present. The meeting carried a motion of no-confidence in Air Tom Walsh, and condemned the activities of Air Walsh and certain other officials in seeking the re-registration of the Union under what was described as “ a set of infamous rules.” Tho motions were carried in the name of “ The Seamen’s Union of Australasia.”

It was stated that a special requisition meeting would be held on Wednesday to consider the immediate suspension of Tom Walsh. It was also resolved that the members should return to the coastal ships, the best way they could on the old terms, hoping by this means t.o abolish the volunteers. ADELAIDE, March 30. The South Australian wntersiders have declared their overtime strike off, and are resuming work to-night. THE SEAMEN'S CLIMB DOWN. SYDNEY, March 31. The decision of the seamen to resume work on tho coastal vessels constituted n victory for the owners. Tho strikers will have to wait until vacancies occur in tho crews before they can re-enter the service. The decision caused surprise in shipping circles as the seamen bad emphatically stated at the beginning of the strike that they would not enter into any agreement until the owners had dispensed with the services of volunteers. The seamen also decided to lift the black embargo placed oil the vessels of tho Newcastle and Hunter River Coy. It is expected the waterside workers will also declare the strike otf at the weekly meeting to-day.
