.MEXICAN LAND CHANT. WASHINGTON, March 29. The machinery of the Federal Government will he set in motion on Alonrday to ascertain the* facts regarding a reported grant of two million acres of land on Magdalena Bay in Lower California, made to a Mexicn-n Japanese .syndicate l>y the Mexican Government. The Mexican Ambassador, Honor Tclflez, declared that the report of a land grant eonoession to a Japanese syndicate was perfectly absurd. The Japanese Embn.ssey officials said they had no information on the subject.

CANADIAN ELECTION. OTTAWA, March 29

A telegram from Stratliroy, Ontario, says:—Mr J. C. Elliott, the newlyappointed Minister of Labour in the -MaeKenzie King Federal Government has been elected at the bye-election that was necessitated by hi.s elevation to Cabinet rank. The election was in West Middlesex Hiding. The Minister defeated Mr T. A. Elliott, the Conwrvntive. by a majority of 2681 votes.

The voting was:—Air Elliott (Liberal) 0520; Air Elliott (Conservative) 2839.

In tlie general election last October, Air Elliott, the Liberal, polled only 4689 votes; Air AfcDougnll (Progressive) 3222, and Air Elliott (Conservative) 3207.

ARCTIC FLIGHT

NEW YORK, Alareb 30.

A telegram from Nome, Alaska, says that a radio message reports that the vanguard of iho Wilkins Expedition has reached Point Barrow, after a fast overland trip of 23 days from the Kotzebue railroad terminus. During the journey, four days were lost in blizzards, the temperature reaching 46 Iwlow zero.

The vanguard, which has transported the food supplies, is now preparing a landing field for the planes, which are still under repair at Fairbanks.

A NEW' TONIC. WASHINGTON, March 30. Malt “Health Booster." containing 3.75 per cent, of alcohol, which looks like laser, will las placed on the market for a trial for a jjeriod of six months, under the sanction of the Asistant Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Andrews, who is in charge of the enforcement of the Prohibition law. Permits for the manufacture and sale of the “Health Booster’’ are being issued to certain breweries by the Government.
