Leaving the country cm April Jltli. .Mr Fiirkert will he absent for at least eight or ten months, and perhaps longer. In the course of Ills tour, the head of the Public Works Department. will take every opportunity of looking into the latest - methods of dealing with engineering and other problems that come within the scop,? of his Depnrt- | menu or in which he is interested in his capacity as chairman of the Main Highways Board. His observations will extend not- only to late developments in engineering and other methods, notably in application to road-

making, hut to the production of the engineering material that is imported into this country in furtherance- of various brant-lies of development work'. For in-tance. in Britain. he will visit the works at which the generators and other units for the great power station at Arapuni are being; manufactured.

This apart, Mr .Fiirkert will take every opportunity in each country visited of making himself familiar with modern developments in mich matters a- transport development, the regulation of traffic, and various aspects of administrative* control. FT?
