OHAKUNE, March 30. -Sargentit's Garage at Ohakunc was totally destroyed by fire about one thirty this morning with seven ears including two unsold ones, one motor lorry and two motor bicycles. \ very successful trial run. of the new dredge built to assist the new harbour works which are costing sixty thousand sterling, was made in the presence of the Harbour Board last evening. The new wharf costing nine thousand, has iusl been completed and tho harbour walls are gradually extending to embrace IU acres. The dredge is a suction cutter, specially designed to suit the local conditions and is run entirely by crude, oil engines. An earlv start, will be made to deepen the harbour which will he dredged to a depth to allow twenty-five feet at high witter and fifteen at low water. ALLEGED MUEDEH. CHRISTCHURCH. March 30. Ernst Abraham Hall Archer, a blacksmith. 53. was charged this morning that he killed Jessie Wilson by an unlawful act. He wa; committed t" the Supreme Court. The police- produced - statement in which Archer said the girl died during an act of intimacy in his shop. At the inquest, subsequently, the coroner’s verdict was that death was due to air embolism, air having been forced into the woman's !m<lv for an unlawful purpose. WOMAN BURNT. HAMILTON. March 30. A middle-aged woman. Mrs Lilian Caslletun, employed as housekeeper to Mr Masters, a farmer, at Eureka, was engaged at washing when the flames from the copper ignited her clothes. There was no one about at the time and the- unfortunate woman endeavoured to suppress the Haines by rolling on the grass, but did not succeed until the clothes were nothing but cinders. She managed to make her way into the house hut was not discovered for an hour when she was removed to the hospital here. She lies in a serious condition.
