WINDOW SMASHER FOILED.
LONDON. Jan. 20. A douhle-pnned window, which looked as if it consisted of a single pane defeated the supposed object of a man wlio broke the outer pane at the shop of Messrs Garrard and Co.. Ltd., jewellers anil silversmiths, i Albemarlestreet, A\'., yesterday. Assistants in the shop, hearing a noise like an explosion, rushed outside. to-find a large hole in the window and a man running down (J-rafton. street pursued by a crowd. After running several yards. the man was caught and held until the police arrived. ft is understood that he will he charged at Marlborough-street Police Court this morning with attempting to rob the shop. To a jMTson looking casually at the window it appeared that there was nothing between the outer pane and die -how eases. Actually, however, there was a space of four inches between the outer pane and the inner one protecting the jewellery.
