Jan. 20. ‘‘The statement that cancer runs in families and the much-quoted instance of Napoleon the Great are not true, ’ said Sir Berkeley Afoynihnn. the surgeon, addressing the Leeds Luncheon Club yesterday. “T have had the opportunity of examining the viscera of Napoleon .and find there is absolutely no trace of eanoar.” Sir Berkeley, who was speaking in support of the British Empire Cancer Research Campaign, referred to the ineroa.se of earner of the tongue caused hv syphilis and smoking, and said : “At the present time women are almost exempt from cancer of the tongue, but I think they have a future in that direct ion.” Cancer was being cured till the time hv surgery, and doctors wore trying to prevent cancer.
