AUSTRALIAN FLOODS

RAINS ABATED

[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, March 26. The rains have now abated. Reports from the country centres state that the town of C'oonnmble. is under water, hut only the low-lying parts are affected, and the damage is

not serious. Other centres report that the Hood waters ane entering the houses, hut the lull in the rain has averted the serious consequence that were at first anticipated. All towns are now safe, unless further heavy falls of lain occur, which is unlikely.

The damage so far reported is heavy, although not as had so far, as was antiepnted. The breaking of the drought in the pastoral areas was to-day reflected at the Homehush sheep sales, where the supplies, which had been very heavy during the drought period, fell below the requirements. The prices jumped from ns to 10s per head.
