OUT OF DATE TRAMWAYS.
PARIS. Jan. 19. Only the consent of the French Government is now needed for the Paris Municipal Council to order the pulling up of many of the niujn tramway lines penetrating to the heart of the city and to confine the working of other tramway lines to early morning and shopping hours. It has been found tliat the tramways which were laid down across file centre of the city many years ago. when the traffic difficulty was not so great a.s it is now, have proved an insoluble problem. Tramway-ears are slow at all crossings and turnings, and on e-tv ay traffic is rendered almost impossible in streets which have tramway lines. It is proposed by the Municipal Council that, ns a first step, the tramwav terminus at the Opera end of the Rue du Juntre Soptembre should be abolished and a new terminus for these tramway lines lound outside the congested area. The same measure is to be adopted for some of the many lines which converge towards other parts of Paris, in eluding those near the Gnre du Nord During the hours when tramway-car services will he prohibited motor-omni-buses will he substituted.
