DUNEDIN, March 25
One thousand •excursionists from the Gore Friendly Societies were included in the attendance of 17,793 at the Exhibition yesterday. The attendance to date is now 2,252,256.
Two Easter trains leaving Christchurch on Thursday night have been overbooked and a third has been fixed to leavo at 11 p.m. An extra train will leave Invercargill on Friday morning The Hon. W. Noswortliy (Minister ol' Finance) was a guest of the directors last night. Every member of' the Cabinet lias now paid, an official visit to the Exhibition. Replying to the toast the Minister said: “I am pleased that the New Zealand Government’s effort seems to be appreciated, f think it well that the public should be aware of the activities of some of the Departincuts which do a 'tremendous amount of work, but come little into the limelight. The success of the Exhibition is more remarkablo when it is considered that in 10 months we have had a decrease of £1,166,954 over the corresponding period ol last year in the amount of money coming in from overseas owing to the drop in the value of exports. Added to this, unfortunately, we have had an increase of £2,487,686 in the amount of money going overseas, principally for manufactured, goods. I hope the Exhibition will have its ell'ect next year and in n greatly increased demand for New Zealand made goods.
