FRENCH POLITICS.
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION franc again falling. PARTS, March 20. The franc established a new low record to-day of 137.7 francs to JL'i. This fall is attributed to the general political situation in France. It is ]>ointed out that tho Governinent’s big majority in the recent vote of no-confidence in the Chamber was duo to Socialists .supporting the Government. only out of .sympathy for Al. Alalvy, but when the franc is again discussed, Al. Jiriand’s two hundred Udt and Centro followers will bo opposed hy some of three hundred members, comprising the Rightists and the Socialists, who object to M. Raoul Perot, tine Finance Minister. It is now questioned whether the Govern-' ment can last until after Faster.
M. Raoul Perot, the Finance Minister, addressing the Chamber Finance Committee, estimated that the 1920 budget would show a deficit of five milliards of francs. This would he mci hy the revenues already approved, and hv fresh taxation including a civic tax, and indirect taxation duties on production, the estimated proceeds of which woidd he three milliards of francs.
