Ten years after the death of Lancecorporal Daniel Brown, who was killed in action on the western frontier, his parents (M.rand.Mrs Alexander Brown, Taiori Mouth, formerly of Milton) last week received from military headquarters at 'Wellington a kodak camera which was the property of the deceased soldier. The camera was forwarded by the Imperial Military Authorities, and accompanying it was a letter stating that it was probable that Lancecorporal Brown had handed in the camera on arrival in France, discovering that it was a breach of the militarv regulations to be in possession of it. ’
“Tile associated banks have done a very foolish thing in making £1 notes and 10s notes of the same size,” declared -Mr H. C. Campbell at the meeting of the. Council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce last night. He complained that this similarity caused many unfortunate mistakes in the giving of change, and he quoted an instance in point. Mr Campbell suggested that they should communicate with the other chambers of-commerce on the matter. Some action was required. Mr A. Ibbotson said the banks had been approached before on the matter. Members said it was uniformity of colour rather than of size about which the banks had previously been approached. Mr P. Harr moved that Die matter be referred to the executive to take action, and this was approved. Mr Ibbotson complained of the similarity and number of some of the £lO notes and TOs notes, and members should combine to adopt different sizes for tlie different values of notes.
If ;ill (lie cars promised for 1023-27 are-actually put on the road, and the scrapping nf old vehicles continues at its present negligible rate, there will he vert- little room for motorists. In America, the congestion in cities is so great that bumpers are almost universal. and the time is approaching when congestion in out" own country, combined with tho lack oi skill ot many drivers, will make bumpers not only a reasonable precaution, but an absolute necessity. When, they were first introduced bumpers or butlers were unsightly, and looked like excrescences on the car. This was probably due to the shortage, of selection and to tho difficulty in providing more than a. makeshift form ot attachment to all but tile most popular ears. Now, even tho most casual survey shows that a. bumper, even when purchased mratel v ami fitted after delivery, may look pari of the ear and quite attractive. There are several forms of buffer, ebielly falling under the headings of rigid "bar with flexible attachments, flexible bar. and a combination of the two. Fittings are available for any make of car. usually without any drilling or fitting.
