Perfect conditions again prevailed this morning after the first hour, wherein shaded targets gave trouble as yesterday a. slight mirage affected the elevation as the sun increased in strength. The wind was notable tor its complete absence. First leg, 500 yards, ten shots ol the Wellington and first (fifteen shots) COO yards of the Dominion match, occupying men. The second stages, ten at GO Oynrds and ten at 000 yards respectively will be decided this afternoon. The winner of the Trentham aggregate (best totals for 300. 500 and GOO yards) will then be known. Hard hitting was the order of the day from the start at 300 yards, Masefield and Free notching possibles while 19s were registered by J. Munro. Nix, Pitt, McNnultv, Dundgeon and A. Harris. Croxtoo, a well-known ox-champion, who had 22G on in the licit aggregate, had to leave this morning owing to a family lierenvement. Captain Horrelf, one of tbe Papanui air smash victims, was his brother-in-law. With three matches gone the leaders in the Biile Clubs Champion teams contest are:—Wellington Suburbs No. 1 score 1143. Karori No. 2 next 1141. Wanganui No. 1 third 1135. Featherston 1124. There is a big drop to the next, Wanganui No. 2 1117. There is yet a long way to go as the aggregate includes all matches in the belt series except the King’s prize match. Thirty teams (of five men) are competing.
