At a conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce a motion expressed the opinion that the time had arrived when penny postage within the British Empire was advisable. There was considerable opposition, one member stating they should not ask the department to suffer a further loss of revenue. It had already lost a million sterling yearly from reduction to a penny half-penny postage. The motion was ultimately withdrawn.
