WELLINGTON. March 12. The retirement from the Judicial Bench of Sir Robert Stout has left vacant the position of Chairman ol tlie Prisons Board, which position must, by statute, be lilled by a Judge. The new chairman of the Prisons Hoard is Mr Justice Stringer, who lias been a Judge of the Supreme Court since 1918.
Sir Robert Stout will continue to he a member of the Board over which, as Chief Justice, he presided so long. The following gentlemen have also been appointed members of the Board: Sir George Fenwick. (Dunedin). William Recce (Christchurch). Edwin Hall (Oiiolumga) and Sir Donald McGavin (Wellington).
RAILWAY RETIREMENT. WELLINGTON. March 11. The Prime .Minister (the Him .T. G. Coates) lias announced Mr W. H. Halos who, for the past year has been acting as divisional superintendent for the railways of the North Island, is retiring 011 superannuation, and Mr E.
