SHIPPING DISPUTES
[Australian A N.Z. Cable Association.J EXTENSION OF STRIKE NOT FAVOURED. SYDNEY, March 11. The possibility ol the extension ot the coastal shipping strike to the interstate services was discussed at a meeting of the Seamen's Gnion when certain extremists favoured an all-in policy, which would mean the withdrawal of tne seamen from the interstate ships. The majority of the members. however, manifested a strong disinclination to bring about lurthcr trouble.
The general feeling was that the union had already been bard Hit by the coastal trouble, which, they said should ho settled as soon as possible. Complaints were freely made that members of the Maritime Cnions were black-legging by volunteering to take the seamen’s place and requests were made for a searching inquiry. Johunson said that if the seamen thought they had no chance of winning they should make peace on the terms they could get. Resolutions were carried that the branch executives use every means to bring the strike to a satisfactory issue and that a committee should be appointed to ascertain the extent of tho black-legging and take steps to prevent it. STEAMER DECLARED BLACK. HOBART, March 11.
Following cm a dispute between the watersiders and the Electrolytic Zinc Company over the rates for handling zinc cargoes, the Union Company’s steamer Kenne has been declared black by the watersiders, because she discharged coal and loaded zinc by nonunion labour.
