SHIP IN PERIL,

SAN FRANCISCO. .March 9,

The motor ship Mazatlan is drifting helplessly 91 miles east of Gunman, on account of engine trouble, with nineteen persons, including two women, aboard, according to a wireless message received on Tuesday. It is believed that the vessel is endangered because it is in the winter typhoon area. A relief vessel is to be sent from Honolulu.

The American Association for the Advancement of Atheism announces that atheistic societies, similar to the “ Damned Souls Club ” at the Univorsity of Rochester, will shortly he established in many colleges throughout the country. Mr Freeman Hopwood, general secretary, declared that branches were expected to be established at Yale a,nd the University of Kansas within a few days with the likelihood of at least a dozen branches to be functioning by the end of the present term. Air Hopwood said: “Our Association will supply them with literature, and co-operate in every way. We especially endorse the inviting of professors to address and advise them. Wheat in the country mills and elevators totalled 75,429,bu5he1s or 11.3 per cent as against 07,022,000 bushels or 7.8 per cent on the same date last year.
