TRKNTHAM RIFLE MEETING. iiy tf. leg mini— chess assn., cocvnicirr. TRKNTHAM. March !). The Army Rille Championship Meeting opened this morning in fine weather and light variable wind. The visnbility was patchy owing to passing clouds. The competitors, who total -150, including a party from the New /ealand Naval Division, paraded early, and wore briefly addressed hv Colonel Burgess, Chief Executive Officer, wlm
welcomed the new competitors and made clear the need for the implicit observance of the rules governing the conduct of shooting. By nine o’clock firing was in full blast, a start being made with the first leg ol the Army Championship series: rapid and snapshooting at 300 yards and deliberate shooting at GOO yards. Ihe first two were over hy eleven o’clock. Some fair scores arc being registered, though many found if easier to hit the mound in front of the targets.
The afternoon will he devoted to fire, with movement over ground, ranging from five hundred to one hundred yards from the targets. The cadets made a commencement with their championships at short range, all showing great keenness.
