The satisfactory organisation of the school children’s trip to Dunedin is very creditable to the Progress League which took the matter in hand. At the outset then? were a number of difficulties in sight, hut bv persistence and much friendly help all along the line, the trouble was overcome, and the ambition of the movement realised. Tt was a very happy party which
went its way on Saturday, setting out on iiii eight days’ trip ■vviiicli will create impressions ivliich "ill never be forgotten by the young folk. The trip should he highly educational in every way. and will be full of novelty and variety. One of ihe principal factors in making the trip possible was the enthusiasm of the teachers who helped so readily. They realised ihe advantage of tine trip to the youngsters, and were prepared to .sacrifice themselves for the benefit of their charges. The tour has been made particularly practicable by the kindness of Mr C. Kirk, and others, in Christchurch, who undertook the billeting of those of the travellers who required accommodation. At the outset. Mr Kirk was asked what could he done in the way of accommodation over the week-end, and he replied promptly that he thought old Coast friends would take a delight in putting up the visitors. Tn this he was right and billets wore found for all who did not have their own imediate friends to go to. Til this way the chief difficulty and much of the expense of the trip was overcome. As it is the "tt ostia ml children are travelling almost as cheap a.s the East Coast scholars, and are having three more days to the good. The children who left on Saturday were neatly dressed in their school uniform. and tlieir orderly manner gave promise flint they will do the good name of Hokitika every credit while away.
