Some time ago the Danncvirko Pottcr Board received n tag to its balance sheet that .Messrs J. W. Ellingham and l!. S. Chadwick were ineligihlo to hold their seats on the hoard and since then (hey have not. attended meetings. Mr Martin, the Municipal Association’s solicitor, contended that the members referred to had not forfeited their scats. To-day the Board received advice from the Audit Office that the Solicitor-General had conic to the conclusion that the position of Messrs Flliiigliam and Chadwick, ns trustee shareholders, was too remote to render them interested or concerned within the moaning of the disqualifying provisions of the act. The matter is. therefore, now closed and the relative exception on the balance is withdrawn. THE POLICE FORCE. PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS. WELLINGTON, March I. The following promotions in the Police Department were announced by Commissioner W. B. Alcllvonev : : Senior-Sergeant Thomas Ryan, from West-port, to he in charge at Mount Cook station, in place of Sergeant Lennon, who declined promotion. Sergeant John Fox. of Auckland, l ransferred to take charge of the Westport station.

Mureb. of Wellington, promoted to the rank of detective and l ranslerred t- - Grevnionth. Const able J. O'Connor, of Tetmika. promoted to charge of Granitv, and Constable Kearney, of St. Albans, Christchurch, transferred to Tomuka. Assistant-Matron Rogers, of Cioi-t----clnireh. is promoted to matron, and transferred to Dunedin, vice Mrs G U rrio. deceased.
