[BY TELEGRAPH —PER TRESS ASSOCIATION.] NURSE’S DEATH. CHRISTCHURCH. Feh. 23. Gladys Norali Sayers, Probationary Nurse in the Christchurch Hospital died in the institution on Feb. 7th. following 'tut operation for quinsey. The anaesthetic used was gas. The patient coughed, but could not- inhale alter the operation, owing to a serious obstruction in the passage. The operating surgeon. Dr E. L. Bennett, at once made an opening, hut, during the time that this second operation occupied, the patient had not breathed at all. and when the opening was made she look in a very deep breath and drew in some fluid. Restorative measures were taken, tint were ol no avail. All the medical (evidence was to the effect that dentil was due to asphyxia. The Magistrate found accordingly, that Miss Sayers died of asphyxia, following an operation, and that no blame was attachable to anyone.
