A MOMENTOUS WEEK.
LONDON. February 2-3. It is agreed on all hands that the coming week is momentous. It will see tlie issue of the Coal Commission report and Cabinet’s decision regarding a permanent seat at Geneva. The “Observer” says rumours in connection with Sir A. Chamberlain's resignation are premature, hut again and again he has sacrificed interests to liis own conception of honesty. He wants above all to conciliate Germany without estranging France. Sir Austen. however, ought to make it clear that if Paris. Rome and Warsaw persist in their recent tendency, the Eng-lish-speaking world will be wholly alienated. LONDON. February 27. The " Sunday Times ” says there is authority for stating Sir A. Chamberlain considers Lis speech at Birmingham was grossly misrepresented. Its purpose was merely to indicate that the British Government appreciated all aspects of the question and that was his purpose rather than conveying any personal opinion of the Government policy.
