GREAT SUCCESS
CHILDREN'S TRIP TO DUNEDIN
DUNEDIN, February 25.
The school children who have come from Christchurch to visit the Exhibition. are being comfortably accommodated in Dunedin. Air James Somerville (chairman of the Accommodation IJseeutive) and Air A. C. Maxwell (who is headmaster of the Pbillipstown school anil the supervisor accompanying the children) go round Hie youngsters’ quarters with other members of the local executive every day inspecting the billets to sec that everything is in order. They also look over the catering arrangements, and at night view the sleeping quarters, so that tho whole business is in sate hands. Parties are housed in the Burns Hall, King Edward Technical College. Knox Church Sunday School, Dundas street Sunday School, and St. Stephen’s Sunday School. Air Somervillo said to-day that the health of tho children was excellent and their conduct of the host. The discipline was admirable.
Air Maxwell spoke thus: “If there Is any truth in the saying that- we derive the greatest pleasure in life in the giving of pleasure to others, then in my opinion the Dunedin people who have this duty on hand should ho amongst the happiest on earth, for they have spared no effort to secure the happiness and comfort of the Christchurch children, and to enable them to make the most of the educational benefits derivable. The children will long remember the visit, which is now being brought to a close. From every point of view it has been a great success, and no words of mine can adequately expres my thanks for the splendid organsintion of the local committee, mid their general efforts on our behalf. The children will carry hack with them most pleasant recollections of Dunedin, and T am absolutely certain that those recollections will bo lifelong, and help in future to sustain tho good feeling and harmony of the sister provinces.” The children are returning home today.
The pupils of Hokitika School to tho number of 40. depart next Saturday on route for Dunedin. The Rector, Mr K. Partridge, will be in charge of the party. On the following Saturday 40 country school children are to travel and the arrangements are now being concluded for this trip. A responsible teacher will be in charge of tho party.
