A strong northerly gale, was responsible for a recurrence of bush fires i« several centres of the State. Meagie details have been received and it is not known just how serious the lives are A report from Kinghtke, however, states the situation there is serious. A fire swept down on the town which is a fairlv large settlement about -o miles north-vast of Melbourne and practically the whole town was wipe I out except, the Post Office ... winch fortv people took refuge and which was entirely surrounded by flames. It is believed they are safe. |he Ine burning on a twelve mile trout, the settlement of Clenburn, ten 11,1 south, is .surrounded but it is thought to be safe for the time being. Queenstown is also eulangered and women and children have t>een ordeied awa>Another fire is reported at Glenlyon and it is sweeping southwards towards a small settlement named Little Hampton which at present is in imminent dancer. An outbreak occurred in Ankie Ranee near Geelong. Between two thousand and three thousand men are Bahtin* R, but with little success A message from Lome says Aireys Inlet i, threatened by a fire sweeping southward from Otway Range. Settlers m the line of advance have left their homes. It is thought several houses have already been destroyed.
